It was SO REFRESHING finally seeing an episode with a writing style different from the main 5 writers. Mike Bell is a great writer, he's probably going to carry this season assuming he writes more episodes. This episode had great story, and it was also funny. Also it didn't have a problem that I almost always have with s12-14 episodes. Most s12-14 episodes don't have enough stuff happening in the episode, making even a boring episode feel shorter than it should. This episode didn't feel short nor boring to me. I'm definitely looking forward to more Mike Bell s14 episodes.

Also if it wasn't obvious from that long(ish) text, as of now, I consider this the best s14 episode by far

Unpopular opinion so far:
This episode was mediocre in my opinion. Yes I don't really care for it and I have a reason the ending was bad plus it had Squidward torture it had decent jokes tbh

5/10 Alright

Mike Bell returned? (He wrote several Season 4 episodes)

I can’t watch this episode because I don’t have cable but I’m so glad to hear the great things about it - it’s got me hyped! I’m also surprised and glad to see Mike Bell back on the show and hope he stays for good this time. I really enjoyed his Season 4 episodes and thought he’d have been a great permanent addition to the writing crew.

This was the 1st episode i watched since my no spongebob rest time, and oh god It was refreshing, this seems like it could be a pilot episode for a squidward spin off, and its preety neat! Theres so much happening in this episode, the chances of getting bored are very small! Recommend this episode. 8,5/10

somehow you can IMMEDIATELY tell when this episode starts that the writing resembles older seasons-- it's such a treat for old and new fans alike!!!

it's also a PERFECT execution of "if these characters interacted, what kind of dynamic would they have?"

instead of just, having some stupid small thing in common that brings them together and then something Wacky Happens Eventually after they're done discussing that thing in common, (re: Sea-Man Sponge Haters Club), this episode ACTUALLY explores the characters and their dynamic outside of what brought them together, and the hijinks and consequences that ensue are a result of their shared faults.

it actually manages to compare/contrast the characters in a way that makes their interactions genuine, and they actually seem like THEIR CHARACTERS, COMPLETELY. not JUST the most exaggerated traits of their personality. heck, you can actually tell that these two are around the same age because of this episode, and it doesn't even have to tell you.

also, no idea why, but at the ripe age of 24, that "old man jenkins had a farm" bit took me out. the goofy expressions were amazing in this one, especially those expressions after the baby went out the window. this is a premium modern episode. 8.5/10

Great episode. The complete lack of SpongeBob has really gotten the most attention from the episode but it really deserves to be seen for pairing two opposite characters and putting them in awkward situations. They play off each other very well and it's funny when they portray Bubble Bass as a total slob, complete with back hair on the rug. Ew. I hope Mike Bell is sticking around because he really brought a classic feel to this episode. And if it's true that Derek Drymon is coming back after the fourth movie, we should be getting a lot more episodes that have this old-school feel. 9/10

Finally got to watch this because of my Amazon season pass. This was a fun episode - probably could use some funnier jokes but overall enjoyable, and Bubble Bass and Squidward work really well together in the episode. Deserves at least a 7.5/10, maybe 8/10.
