This episode makes me absolutely love Patrick as a character so much more. This episode feels like an apology for all of the terrible things Patrick has done from seasons 6-8. I'm honestly surprised they didn't do this episode concept earlier, because it fits so well for the show. It's so heartwarming that Patrick did the contest because of the little kid because it actually gives him morality. The atmosphere of this episode is also just so over the top you have to love it. It's actually really intense and emotional for a Spongebob episode, which I can definitely appreciate. I honestly love this episode, and it just goes to show how much better the show has gotten in 9b.

The plot of “What’s Eating Patrick?” is immediately interesting to me. Like Patrick in an eating contest? Sure, sounds good to me! After seeing this starfish inhale food across 9 seasons, seems like it’s about time we capitalize on that little trait of his. And the plot gets set up quite nicely in this beginning scene, which is also a funny scene so this episode really gets me excited quickly. Mr. Krabs having no soul is always going to be funny to me, don’t know what to tell you. So is slapstick involving Squidward (to a point).

This is a pretty good Patrick episode, I like him here. His dimwittedness captivates me. And seeing him train is pretty entertaining. There isn’t much I can say. I guess I also really liked seeing him win, of course, because of course I’d be rooting for Patrick. It’s wholesome. Especially the whole “hometown hero” aspect of this. And I like that Patrick is actually invested in the competition. He’s dumb, but he still cares. Like I said, the Patrick magic is returning!

I like how this episode even has a lesson, to appreciate and savor what you’re doing. Maybe it’s limited only to food, but I’m extrapolating it to all things. That’s a pretty good lesson, honestly.

In terms of the actual contest, it’s a very entertaining watch. Perch Perkins’ commentary is excellent (and I’ve noticed that he’s purple again in these last few episodes…very interesting). I mean it plays out exactly like a movie, which is the whole point, from the action-packed views to the emotional stakes. Is it super funny? No, but I’m noticing that a lot of these episodes are focusing on being all-around entertaining rather than providing laughs every second, and I’m okay with that. Always have been. Feels a lot like the old formula of season 1, except with the fast pace of the rest of the show. Very interesting…may have to keep an eye on this trend.

Pretty funny episode. 9/10. Truly a Patrick episode done right. One of the better episodes of the 9b bunch (so far). Jack Pendarvis seems to be getting better and better by each episode... and who could forget Patrick actually being a hero?

Some crowning moments-
The kid with the "bwoken weg"
Taste bud party
no "cartoony xylophone" tracks (except a KK variation of "The Donut Dilemma" by Nick Carr.)
McNulty actually not cheating =O
I agree with your opinion.
