Spongebob's inferiority/superiority complex is a reoccurring theme in the show that's popped up multiple times, possibly to make him a perfect foil for Squidward. Underneath his perky, confident demeanor and (sometimes) bloated ego, he questions himself, he doubts himself, he completely breaks down and cries when criticized, and he constantly feels the need to reaffirm his masculinity due to feelings of inadequacy and the unhealthy need to compare himself to others. He more or less constantly requires reassurance and emotional support from other people, and something as simple as "you're using a little too much sauce" causes him to have a complete nervous breakdown. The inside of his psyche must be a very dark, sad place ridden with neurosis and depressive thoughts.

Just because SPongeBob is happy don't mean he's 100% confident...

which in reality is actually quite a not so good moral ._.

he's a great role model for kids because DESPITE his low self esteem and low confidence, he tries his hardest to be happy and make others happy.
putting it that way makes it fantastic, now if only he develped self esteem over how he did that <3
