So of cause, about a month ago, we got the winners for the oscars of 2015. Some suprises, some non-suprises and some bad decisions. But then I had a thought, what if I could get the guys from one of my forums to decide their own version of what the Oscars of 2015 should have been. And thus, SBM's Academy Awards has begun.

This will work like a normal awards thread. We have two rounds. One round nomination. And the other voting. Then the last thread is revealing the winners. The categories will follow the exact same path as the categories from the Oscars, although instead of voting for the nominations that were picked in the original, you get to nominate what movies should be in each category. So basically, for each category, just pick a movie from the year 2014 that you think should be in that category. Once we have the maximum amount of nominations for each category, the voting round shall begin.

Incase you want to see the categories, here they are.

Best Picture
Best Actor
Best Actress
Best Supporting Actor
Best Supporting Actress
Best Cinematography
Best Costume Design
Best Directing
Best Foreign Language Film
Best Makeup and Hairstyling
Best Original Score
Best Original Screenplay
Best Adapted Screenplay
Best Animated Feature Film
Best Documentary Feature
Best Documentary Short Subject
Best Film Editing
Best Original Song
Best Production Design
Best Animated Short Film
Best Live Action Short Film
Best Sound Editing
Best Sound Mixing
Best Visual Effects

Rules
  1. You can nominate up to a maximum of five movies, actors or whatever for each category.
  2. You don't have to nominate for all categories. Nominate for ones you want to do.
  3. You can only nominate movies that were released in 2014. (This means you can still nominate a movie that was released in 2014 in a foreign country, but was released in US in 2015).
  4. No free napkins.

So that's about it. Have fun nominating your picks. I'll probably post my nominations soon.

I still don't think SpongeBob would count.

Um, I'm allowing Anchorman but I'm afraid I'm not allowing Sponge Out of Water since I'm not counting it as being released in 2014.

I may be a little limited since I only saw a single R-Rated movie from this year, and I think a lot of the most critically acclaimed ones were given that rating. And just to be fair, a single movie can only take a single nomination from me.

Best Picture: Boyhood
Best Original Score: Muppets Most Wanted
Best Animated Feature Film: The LEGO... hang on, that's just too obvious. I know everyone's just gonna pick it. I'll instead go with Rainbow Rocks, because while it wasn't nearly close to the best movie, I put it in high regard because of just how much they could develop on and make with a movie that was pretty lame.
Best Documentary Feature: Selma
Best Original Song: The Hanging Tree (Mockingjay)
Best Production Design: The Hobbit: Battle of Five Armies
Best Visual Effects: Guardians of the Galaxy

Best Supporting Actor: JK Simmons for Whiplash, Ethan Hawke for Boyhood, Neil Patrick Harris for Gone Girl, Bradley Cooper for Guardians of the Galaxy, Edward Norton for Birdman

Best Supporting Actress: Patricia Arquette for Boyhood, Emma Stone for Birdman, Keira Knightley for Imitation Game, Tilda Swinton for Snowpiercer, Meryl Streep for Into the Woods

Also, how about some categories that differ from the awards? (Best voice acting in an animated movie, best (genre) film, best popcorn movie, funniest performance, all worst of categories, etc.)

I agree with Leedles, we should have some different categories too, like Best Comedy...I'd nominate 22 Jump Street and Neighbors.

Selma wasn't a documentary...it was just based on real events.

I know it wasn't a documentary, but I still threw it in there because of the whole real event thing. Maybe I shouldn't put it there.

After doing some researched, I've decided to not count Selma as a documentary. Also, regarding your request for more categories BML, as much as I'd love to have more categories, I'd perfer to just stick to the same categories from the original Oscars. Remember, this is our version of what the oscars should have been.
