Press release:
Nickelodeon today announced that it is the entitlement sponsor of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Saturday, May 9 at Kansas Speedway dubbed the SpongeBob SquarePants 400. The SpongeBob SquarePants 400, which will be broadcasted on 7:30 p.m. ET on FOX Sports 1, will feature a weekend of Bikini Bottom-themed activities and fun for the entire family.

“The SpongeBob SquarePants 400 gives Nickelodeon the opportunity to expand its relationship with NASCAR, while working with a best-in-class track to give fans a unique, engaging and high-quality race experience that the whole family can enjoy,” said Pam Kaufman, Chief Marketing Officer and President of Consumer Products, Nickelodeon Group. “Nickelodeon has embarked on some great initiatives with NASCAR over the last 10 years, sponsoring and participating in marquee racing events that have resonated with motorsports fans across the country.”

“I’m excited to partner with Nickelodeon for the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 on May 9,” said Patrick Warren, Kansas Speedway President. “This is a great opportunity for us to engage SpongeBob fans of all ages to racing with a great partner."

Also at the speedway, attendees will be able to enjoy some pre-Mother’s Day fun in the Nickelodeon Kids Zone, which will be located in the Kansas Speedway Fan Zone. The area will feature appearances from the SpongeBob SquarePants costumed characters, a SpongeBob SquarePants photo station and more.

Nickelodeon has a long-standing relationship with NASCAR, teaming up with the motorsports giant on several programming and racing events. On the track, the network has sponsored the SpongeBob SquarePants Movie 300 at Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC in 2004; participated in the Bank of America 500 week in 2012; and brought the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to the Atlanta Motor Speedway for the NASCAR XFINITY Series and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races in 2014. NASCAR has also contributed talent and content to Nickelodeon programming such as the Kids’ Choice Awards (Danica Patrick, 2012 and 2013), Kids’ Choice Sports Awards (Danica Patrick, 2014), Team Umizoomi (Jeff Gordon, 2012), Hammer Down (2014) and an upcoming Bubble Guppies episode (Jimmie Johnson, premiering in 2015).

Since its launch in July 1999, SpongeBob SquarePants has emerged as a pop culture phenomenon. The series has been the most-watched animated program with kids 2 – 11 for more than 13 consecutive years, and over the past several years, it has averaged more than 100,000,000 total viewers every quarter across all Nickelodeon networks. As the most widely distributed property in Viacom history, SpongeBob is seen in over 185 countries and translated in more than 50 languages. The character-driven cartoon chronicles the nautical and sometimes nonsensical adventures of SpongeBob, an incurably optimist and earnest sea sponge, and his undersea friends.

Sorry but it's the "xfinity" series now, no seriously, it is called the xfinity series. :|
EDIT: Nevermind apparently it's two different series... the one sport I'm not there on is NASCAR honestly.
I'm honestly not sure how to feel about this for no- wait GORDON WAS ON A FREAKIN UMIZOOMI EPISODE AND JOHNSON IS IN A BUBBLE GUPPIES EPISODE? How does that even- nope, never mind I'm not even going to bother anymore, just no.

Lol what a sponsor for a race :P Last time SpongeBob sponsored a race in NASCAR, some of the drivers ran SpongeBob paint schemes. Wonder if we'll be seeing any this time around.

This isn't the first time that spongebob has sponcered a NASCAR Race. There was an Xfinity Series race back in 2004 (back when it was called the Busch series) advertising the first movie. It was at Charrolete, N.C. and Jimmie Johnson won the race.

I love it when SpongeBob obnoxiously invades some random genre like Broadway musicals or NASCAR racing and fans of that other thing get mad.
That is the way of the sponge. Nosy, annoying, appears where he is not wanted.

Hey DadMom, how do you think lil' Bobbeh feels about this Broadway musical made about his life and friends?

The one car that probably captured the attention of children more than any other at the Greater Kansas City International Auto Show was the Camry with Nickelodeon’s SpongeBob SquarePants wrap. It was there to help promote the SpongeBob SquarePants 400 NASCAR race at the Kansas Speedway on May 9.

The colorfully wrapped Camry also captured the attention of adults. It is one of the perks of being the pace car for a NASCAR event.

In Maine and Poland (at the same time)
In the North, we like to think of Southerners as smelly, barbaric, irresponsible rednecks who watch NASCAR while chugging down illegally distilled alcohol, all in their incredibly run down, messy, abandoned-looking trailer.
It's simply not true, and we all know it. Southerners sometimes like to think of us as rude, inconsiderate snobs who all want to grow up to be stockbrokers or bagel shop owners. It's usually not because we hate each other, but because we just like to mess with each other in the cruelest way possible. I still don't watch NASCAR, because it's boring for me. I mean, it's just car going around in circles.
I respect the South, although we ALL know that the North is better, because we have clam chowder. :P

This is awesome. :D My dad (a devout liberal abolitionist, Confederacy-hating Northerner, by the way :p) is a huge NASCAR fan, and I can't wait to see his reaction when he finds out about this.

And for some reason, everyone is saying it's ironic that SpongeBob should sponsor a race when he can't even drive.

But really when you think about it, it's not ironic AT ALL, because WHAT is everyone's favorite part of a NASCAR race?

The crashes!
