Why Does SpongeBob Get Days Off, But Squidward Never Does?

In several episodes, we see that SpongeBob has a day off. Whenever he goes to the Krusty Krab on his days off, Squidward's working there. Squidward's the one who hates his job, so why does SpongeBob get days off?

Well, SpongeBob works harder and more efficiently than Squidward. Even in the Krusty Krab Training Video, Squidward was caught sleeping on the job. Not to mention all the Employee of the Month awards SpongeBob earned throughout the show.

Heh I remember making a topic like this before. Like I said back then, it's probably because he slacks a lot and has to make up for it. That or he has to make enough money to pay for his luxurious easter head or it's an excuse to be away from SB when he's at home.

Your last two theories are quite interesting, actually.

We just have to decide what he hates more- Spongebob, or working at the Krusty Krab.

That was something I'd wondered, but I think there've also been times when SB was working and Squidward was nowhere to be seen.

Otherwise, though, I like the suggestions CowBob made. They both make sense.

Those are some interesting theories. SpongeBob's pineapple easily re-grow complete with furniture so I doubt he needs to spend much for that. Squidward, on the other hand, needs to pay for all his stuff somehow right? And I bet he does enjoy working a little more when SpongeBob isn't there.

"How am I supposed to enjoy your day off if you come to work anyway?"

Squidward likely does it to get away from SpongeBob, he does seem to like his job better when SpongeBob's gone

It's like Dinosaurs- Earl hates his job, but he also hates his family. He has one heck of a life.

Squidward: He slacks off many many times so he should make up for those days and until he does, he'll work almost every single day

SpongeBob: He works very hard and has many Employee of the Month awards so he deserves many days off because of all the work he's done at the KK.

Wait, when did Earl hate his family? He hates his mother-in-law, and his children frequently drive him nuts, but I don't remember him actually hating his family.

And it's kinda hard to compare him to Squidward, who has no family at home to support.

SpongeBob deserves day offs. Krabs knew it. It's probably one of his ways to show SpongeBob his appreciation towards Spongy's work. Squidward acts as if every day is a day off, so why would he deserve an actual day off?

Well Baby's kind of annoying, but still he is his baby, he must love his kids a bit and if he didn't love his wife he wouldn't have married her. But his mother-in-law drives him crazy, so again it's a case of what's worse- home or work? His best friend is at work so... Did Earl ever remind you of Fred Flintstone and his friend remind you of Barney Rubble?

Yeah, that's true.

And yes! Cept that Earl didn't have Fred's temper as far as I can recall. But, he and his friend did definitely remind me of Fred and Barney.
