Why does Nickelodeon give specials different names?

RedSoxFan274

Baseball. Hockey. SBM vet. I drop in unexpectedly.
I know this has been discussed before, jus starting a new thread about it...

Our latest example? "SpongeBob vs. The Goo," which is not only the worst name for a special in the show's history, but it actually prevented me up until now from realizing that this episode was actually the elusive "It Came From Goo Lagoon." (Granted, I probably should have figured that out on my own, but still.)

I believe someone once said that they did it for marketing purposes. But that still doesn't explain it to me. Either use the REAL episode titles, or, if the real episode title isn't considered "catchy" enough (or whatever), then just have them use the alternate title that you're going to use anyway! Make the two synonymous!

Do you know how many years it took me to realize that my favorite episode was NOT named "SpongeBob's House Party"?

Really, I just despise this practice and am looking for some sort of explanation.

Yeah that is really annoying and it goes back such a long time. Even "Ugh" had another name and it was SpongeBob B.C. from what I can remember when it first came out. Nick executives really don't know how to market anything right.

Just like:

Hello Bikini Bottom---->SpongeBob Goes on Tour

But yea, I don't really know why they can't just say the real name. If they're going to promote it a certain way, then might as well call it that. Basically just call it SpongeBob vs. The Goo if you're going to promote it that way.

Yeah. It's weird they do that. Nick's preferred name for the special is the name for the Patchy parts.

Have You Seen This Snail? - Where's Gary? (which I must admit, I prefer Nickelodeon's title)
Dunces and Dragons - Lost In Time
The Great Patty Caper - Mystery With a Twistery (which didn't even have a twist in the episode)

Truth or Square? - The Great Escape
The Clash of Triton - Neptune's Party

I don't mind the practice most of the time, but occasionally it can get annoying/confusing.

Yeah, but names like Mystery with a Twistery (which I am glad isn't the episode's title) don't give much hype
That gives far more hype than the Great Patty Caper... FOR KIDS. ;)

Hype (Noun.)
(Hai-p)
Definition: Extravagant or intensive publicity or promotion.
Sentence: "They've really put a lot of hype on opening this new Chumporium, haven't they?"

I noticed that too, when the commercial for It Came From Goo LaGoon came on. I didn't realize what it was until I posted about in the chat and someone said that it's actually ICFGL, not SpongeBob VS The Goo.

I was thinking about this too.

Ugh = Spongebob B.C.
Have you seen this Snail? = Wheres Gary?
Dunces and Dragons = Lost In Time
Whatever Happened To SpongeBob = WhoBob WhatPants?
The Great Patty Caper = Mystery with a Twistery
Little Yellow Book = Diary of a Sponge
It Came from Goo Lagoon = Spongebob VS. The Goo

I like the first the first two more than the original names.
Anyway, here are all the ones that I can think of now.

Just for hype however I like some names better then there normal names. I like WhoBob WhatPants better than the name Whatever Happened to SpongeBob.
