F.U.N is extremely dark, and here's why:
SpongeBob is being manipulated by Plankton. In a different way than Walking Small.
In that episode, he simply "Infected" him with his not-so-evil. In this one, he befriended SpongeBob and used him to steal the Krabby Patty. YOU DON'T DO THAT. THAT IS A SIGN OF PURE EVIL.
But what about the happy moments in that episode? What about Jellyfishing, and the F.U.N song?
That's the catch. It's velvet coated.
It's pure darkness- wrapped in happiness. The episode has a dark secret. The darkness of the episode is hidden at the bottom of a pit of happiness.
Discuss this monstrosity here.

What did I just read?

Actually, The Graveyard Shift and Bubble Buddy are dark episodes.

Seriously though... the only episode that could be considered dark is Nasty Patty, least for me anyways.

So he befriended SpongeBob just to jack dat Krabby Patty, big whoop. There's been a lot worse in SpongeBob alone. Remember the one where Mrs. Puff is calling for SpongeBob's death from the stands of a demolition derby?

Yeah, like a freaking gladiator or some crap, wtf

By no means is this episode up there with Graveyard Shift or Nasty Patty in darkness, but it still is pretty dark if you think about the right way. Again, it's darkness- hidden by a huge amount of happiness. You have to read between the lines.

I honestly still don't know what I read. Thanks Jeffery for clearing it up. :p I can see how you would think it was dark for Plankton to befriend SB. But that's who Plankton is and honestly it was a pretty clever scheme. If I was Plankotn I'd do the same thing. And as for the part where Plankton did started to enjoy SB's fun, we all know Karen snapped him out if it.

Seriously, how is Bubble Buddy dark? Spongebob was just creating an imaginary friend, and besides, Bubble Buddy was alive the whole time!

I think he meant the part when Scooter died.

Okay, I'll admit, that one scene is dark.

That's why he left town at the end of the episode. He knew he would be arrested for murder. :shiftyninja:

And lol did SpongeBob have ANY reaction when he found out his friend Scooter was dead? Maybe he made a deal with the Flying Dutchman after the episode to get Scooter's soul back. Of course BB would have to help because he didn't dig him out.

okay a little off topic I'm sorry :p

Bubble Buddy is dark, because SpongeBob's friend is a BUBBLE. It would be normal if there was a new human and/or fish character that had to leave for some reason, but this bubble just randomly comes to life and takes off. Plus, how did he not pop? It is slightly creepy.

I know what you mean...dunno about FUN, but I know there was just something weird about that Bubble Buddy episode. Faceless bubble floats around and wreaks havoc, it's like something out of a horror movie. Plus there was just something about the atmosphere of that episode, I can't explain it

I never really thought Bubble Buddy was really dark until some of you pointed out several aspects.

I can now never watch that episode the same way again. Poor cousin.

In hindsight this was a bit of an exaggeration, but I was pretty tired back there, lol. Though I admit, the whole "watching a man (fish?) die" thing is pretty out there, and there's just something about the fact that he doesn't have a face. I'm probably thinking way too much about this, but since it is a SpongeBob forum and all... :p

All the happy cheery montages are velvet coated. It's based on a dark story that was disguised brilliantly by the tunes. It was a story of brilliant manipulation of evil, being disguised as a cheery, happy, fun-time episode.

And that's why I abolutely ADORE it.

Well, I don't really consider F.U.N to be a "dark episode", and you might've embellished a bit on say that it was "extremely dark" :P

That's exactly what I'm trying to say.
