I remember there being a topic for this already, but I think it's been a while since anyone posted in it last. I thought I'd make a new one because I didn't want to bring the old one up again.
Anyway, I'm just curious to know what other people on here think of this show. Good? Bad? Cheesy? Awesome? Post your thoughts.
My considered opinion is that I do enjoy it, but I'll always love SpongeBob more than MLP. :p I only got into this show because I thought the music and writing was really good. It airs on The Hub, btw.
I love it! I didn't love automatically though, it grew on me once I started to understand the show more.
Back in October of '10 when the Hub premiered, I heard that there was going to be a reboot of My Little Pony on there (and they were gong to syndicating Fraggle Rock, a Muppet show I'd been wanting to see). I never cared for MLP, but the new series looked interesting so I watched the first half of the pilot on On Demand. A lot of things were annoying me at the time, and due to that, I wasn't able to enjoy it. I thought it was ok, but not for me. So I didn't bother to watch the second part.
Much later, I browsed On Demand and noticed "Applebucking Season" was in the Hub section and decided to give the series another chance. I wasn't disappointed; The episode was flippin' hilarious! The series was a whole lot better than I expected! I left it alone for a while, then I saw tons of fanart appearing on DeviantArt. I was surprised to see how popular the show was becoming...
I left it alone again, then one day when I was reading the "Come At Me Bro" page of Know Your Meme, I notice the show was part of the trending memes. Being curious, I click on the page to wonder why it was there in the first place. Read some stuff, checked out a few Vinyl Scratch/Dj-Poni3 memes that were featured on there and soon I found myself watch clip after clip of other pony-related things, enjoying myself to the point were I wanted to watch more episodes. And I did. x3
Watching this show is so much fun. It has a bit of a nostalgic quality and charm to it (A lot of the crew from the show have worked on older shows: Ed, Edd, ‘n’ Eddy, My Life as a Teenage Robot, Foster’s Home For Imaginary Friends, The Powerpuff Girls, and Danny Phantom and SpongeBob :p [Merriwether Williams] That's only to name a few!)
The main characters aren’t just there to look cute, and sell toys. Instead, you're presented with six likeable female characters with their own distinctive personalities. They’re not perfect; they have their faults and breaking points.
Even though it’s mainly aimed at children, it has references and jokes that only older watchers would understand:
I love the art direction; the style or the character design and background layout is appealing and unique:
Big pics are big and the spoiler box doesn't seem to work for them. So here's the links:
(This clip is part of an episode where a creature know as Discord causes Twilight's friends to act the opposite of their personalities. And yes, that is John De Lancie's voice for those who were wondering.)
The stories are well-written, the humor is clever and the songs… are BEAUTIFULLY composed! (One of the reasons why I keep coming back to your user page, Squiddy x3 )
(Many games were created by the fans, but the game that everyone (including myself) were looking forward to playing was Fighting is Magic. A group of fans know as Mane 6 were in the process of developing it, recruiting voice actors from the fandom to supply the voices for the characters. It seemed like Hasbro was ok with them doing all of this, even some of the crew member from MLP liked their idea. But Hasbro sent them a C&D, causing them to stop working on it despite the fact that they were not trying to make money or claim any ownership of their property. Lauren Faust, creator of this generation of MLP and wife of Graig McCracken, stepped in afterwards to help Mane 6 develop a new game. Possible similar to the one they were putting together.)
TL;DR: It's a good show. Give it a try if you're curious...Or not.
With that being said, Squiddykins, how do you feel about Alicorn Twilight and Equestria Girls? While I do love the show, it's been a while since I've seen it. The last episode I saw was "Sleepless in Ponyville." ._. I have mixed feelings about Twilight becoming a princess, but I'm not sure how I feel about Equestria Girls...

Horrid. Even though I'm a boy, I tried watching one episode and it is probably one of the worst shows I have ever seen.
It's aimed at girls and the brand has always been for girls so I don't get the appeal for boys. Animation overall seems pretty lousy nowadays, Cartoon Network seems to be going down the route of making weird cartoons aimed at older people with stoner humour rather than the kind of people they are supposed to target. And no I'm not saying 90s were the best - I grew up watching CN during the 2000s (but a lot of late 90s Cartoon Cartoons are of course the classics).
Really don't see the appeal outside of its target audience.
I understand that some of you might not like MLP, it's completely fine and I respect all of your guys' opinions. :)
Beautifully well said, SandT! I have to agree with what you said about the music on the show, Daniel Ingram puts a lot of effort into the music. And when you listen to the instrumental versions, you can actually appreciate the hard work he's done! Those are awesome finds, too. x3
You should check out JanAnimations on YouTube. He makes awesome fan animations and they look like it came from the show 100%!
As for Alicorn Twilight, I wonder how season 4 will be like now that one of the main characters is a princess. I hope she stays in Ponyville with her friends instead of going to Canterlot forever. And as for Equestria Girls... I'm not even sure what to say about that, but here's what I feel about it:
I have! His work is amazing! :w00t: That animation he did for the BronyDoc; I thought it was created by the animators from the show! I can't wait to see his Buttons series.

Ha! I hope she does too. I really don't understand why Hasbro wanted to turn her into an alicorn. =/ Twi was fine the way she was! They already have three alicorn princesses...And I don't understand why they'd want to make a human spin-off either. Maybe in the fandom, but as canon? Although I don't care much for this things, I'm not going to stop watching the show because of it. Those humanizations are one of the best I've seen, and I'm probably going to like the spin-off anyway. The writers have proved that they can still make good things even after Lauren Faust's leave and Cadence being added to the series.
Here's some examples of instrumental versions of songs used on the show. :)
I'm trying to avoid listening to any of the finale songs, so I can't click the first one, but BABS SEED! Ohmygosh, I had that song stuck in my head for weeks! It's so dang catchy! >.< I love it so much! Maybe too much, lol. I even made a few mashups with it. Here's a couple I put up on YouTube:
I still haven't seen the Apple Family Reunion ep, but I caved in and listened to Raise This Barn. Like everyone else, I was waiting for Applejack to have her own song. I was thinking of making a mashup with this one as well.
I flippin' LOVE This Day Aria! It left me speechless as I listened to it for the first time...It sounded like something that came straight of of a Disney movie!
My opinion: By itself, FiM is a pretty good show. Good writing, animation, jokes (most of the time, anyway), likable and well-developed characters, and great songs (My faves are: Winter Wrap-Up, the CMC theme, & This Day Aria). Definitely something I'd show my daughters (and heck, maybe even my sons) when I get older.
It's the fandom, however, that makes this show amazing. Tons of fan art, music, and animations with a lot of creativity, effort, and passion behind them. Because of its quality and the large amount of content, I've sort of become addicted to brony fan-art of any kind (besides the smut) that I encounter on the Internet.
Despite this, I still don't understand why people like the show THIS much, especially since the show definitely still has girly elements, and, IMO, some episodes aren't really that interesting or are lacking in the types of humor I like (mainly a lot of Season 1 eps). Still, if you think this show is 100% awesome, then more power to ya and brony on. And if you think the show sucks, that's cool, too.
TL;DR: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is an enjoyable, funny, if slightly overrated cartoon with an awesome fanbase that creates a lot of interesting and entertaining content.
I'm a fan of the show. Even if I'm not always watching the show or checking out fan contributions I still like it. As a child, I was a G3 fan. My favorite was Pinkie Pie and it still is today. I'm constantly active on a MLP forum.

I've never watched it but it seems like one of those guilty pleasure shows. My brother watched a few episodes to see what the big deal was about but he found nothing that made it great.
Just curious, has anyone here listened to the Italian version of the theme song? I have and it's SO MUCH BETTER than the one used imo... even though I don't understand the language lol. It's catchier. Don't get me wrong though, I like the original too. :)

I actually love this show. I've seen a few people say that they hate it just because it's about ponies, or because those haters are boys, or because they have no taste in REAL cartoons. But, for me, "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" is more than that. I remember when I saw it the first time it aired, and I was thrilled. Besides what other people think, I believe that this show is one of The Hub's best.
